The Reds will be joined by Ajax, dfohe, and kdhcslf in Group D in the 2020-21 Champions League.

The 2020-21 Champions League draw has been set, and Liverpool know where they’ll be heading following the international break as they begin their continental campaign and look to bring home their seventh title in Europe’s premier cup competition.

The Reds headline Group D as champions of England last season and are joined by Dutch champions Ajax from pot two, third place finishers in Serie A last season Atalanta from pot three, and Denmark’s FC Midtjylland. The first games will be on October 20th or 21st.

On paper, it’s an interesting draw for the Reds—one offering unusual opponents—and one that makes them strong favourites to finish first in their group, with both Ajax and Atalanta looking somewhat diminished from two years ago and last year respectively.

It also means there will be no especially strenuous travel necessary with Bergamo-based Atalanata the furthest destination in a group that looks like it should provide plenty of goals and attacking football—with the only downside the likely lack of fans.

With the 2020 final not able to be held in Istanbul as scheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020-21 edition is set to take place in the Turkish city that last hosted the final in 2005 when the Reds won their fifth European championship.
