Vicky Jepson: “We’re A Small Squad Carrying Injuries”
The boss talks about the first loss of the season for LFCW
It was bound to happen at some point, but we were all hoping it would come later in the season: Liverpool Women dropped three points for the first time since the season began this weekend, after they just could not break down an excellent Leicester City side. Coming right after an excellent victory in the Continental Cup against Manchester United, it’s definitely a bit of a blow but not entirely an unexpected one per the boss.
“Three games in eight days took its toll on us,” Jepson said after the match. “It was a game of two halves. They were the better side in the first half and we were much the better in the second.”
Leicester City managed to get two goals before the 56th minute and the Liverpool goal that came just before the 60th minute. It wasn’t enough for the Reds, however, and that’s at least party due to the fact that the team is tired and not used to playing on a mixture of grass and astroturf.
“It took us time to adapt to the 3G [astroturf] pitch and we didn’t start the game well,” Jepson added. “But I couldn’t have asked any more from them than the way they came back and we were unfortunate not to get any reward for it. I think we deserved something for the way we finished the game.”
“The Manchester United game was a big high for us and we’re a small squad which is also carrying injuries. Now we have the chance of a break.”
The break is more than a little necessary, but it’d be great to also try to make the squad bigger for situations exactly like this one. Hopefully the squad will be back (and the Taylor Hinds injury isn’t too serious) at full force against Lewes on November 1.
