Xherdan Shaqiri Ready to Fight For Liverpool After Transfer Rumours
The Swiss international was said to be near a move away from Anfield in the summer.
Liverpool’s considerably formidable midfield combined with Xherdan Shaqiri’s unfortunately frequent injury record meant that the Swiss dynamo has found it very difficult to earn a consistent place in Klopp’s side.
It was no surprise that this summer rumours began to surface that Shaqiri was looking for a move out of Merseyside to somewhere he could get more playing time. In the end, though, a new move never came to pass, and so Shaqiri remains a Liverpool player, at least until the next window.
During an interview while on international duty, a testy Shaqiri was asked about his situation and seemed to want to put the transfer drama behind him and focus on the season ahead.
“I think enough has been written and said,” the 29-year-old said.
“We are here to play an international game and I don’t want to talk too much about Liverpool because tomorrow is a good game and we must not forget it. Sure, in football there is always speculation and the players think about their situations. That is completely normal.
“And of course, I have also thought about it, that is completely normal. But in the end I decided to stay there. The transfer window is now closed.
“Now I will go back to training with the team after these international matches and try to continue to perform well, which I have already proven a few times, also at Liverpool. And that is my goal.”
The upcoming fixture congestion for the Reds means that Shaqiri, should he remain fit, will see some minutes on the pitch. Hopefully he’ll make the most of his time and help Liverpool get back to their winning ways.
