A groin injury picked up with England makes Liverpool’s captain a major doubt for Sunday.

With each passing day, Liverpool’s injury woes seem to get worse. Today, then, is no exception, with captain Jordan Henderson reportedly not expected to be able to face Leicester City on Sunday due to a groin injury.

Henderson withdrew from the England squad on Monday and returned to Liverpool. The hope had been that it was a preventative move. Now, though, The Times’ Paul Joyce says the player hasn’t been training and isn’t expected to play on the weekend.

He will join long-term first team absences Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, and Mohamed Salah in being unavailable to face the side currently one point ahead of the Reds.

There are also concerns about the status of Andrew Robertson, Neco Williams, and Rhys Williams following the international break, though all three are at least not entirely ruled out for the weekend based on the latest reporting.

Meanwhile, opponents Leicester could be without significant players of their own, with as many as six first team players currently doubtful: Caglar Soyuncu, Daniel Amartey, Wesley Fofana, Timothy Castagne, Ricardo Pereira, and Wilfred Ndidi.
