Alisson Becker Out for Two Weeks
It’s the hammy. Prayers up.
Caoimhin Kelleher’s surprise start against Ajax in Liverpool FC’s Champions League victory was a surprise, and continued evidence of the squad’s quality and mentality in the face of adversity. The sad flip side to that news is that the change was necessary, due to a hamstring injury to our number one, Alisson Becker. Speaking to his good friends at BT Sport before the game, Jürgen Klopp spoke about the extent of the injury:
It is not COVID. That is something we have to mention when it is not the case, and it is not the case. He told us after the game [against Brighton] he felt his hamstring in the 60th or 70th minute.
A little one but enough for today and probably for another week, we will have to wait and see. I have never heard of a hamstring that is only four or five days so it will be 10 to 14 days, I think.
The Brazilian stopper is expected to miss Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham, as well as their final Champions League group game with FC Midtjylland, in which probably the entire senior squad will be rested for. If Klopp’s timeline is right, Alisson should be back in time for a top-of-the-table clash: the visit of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur on December 16.
