The “knock” has apparently been identified as a knee injury. Great.

When the final whistle blew in a cold, mostly empty MCH Area in Denmark Wednesday night, it seemed like Liverpool might have “only” picked up one additional injury, that of Kostas Tsimikas.

Just one injury in a mid-week game was too much to ask for, apparently. The next day news trickled out that Diogo Jota picked up “a knock.” Now, it seems as if it might be more severe than that.

Paul Joyce reports this morning that Jota has picked up a knee injury. And that it’s still too soon to properly assess the severity of the damage. Both of those things sound...less than ideal. As we know, knee injuries can be particularly devastating and long-lasting.

It seems as if Jota will definitely be out for tomorrow’s trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham, and potentially much longer, depending on what the physios find.

This could be a devastating blow for the Reds. Aside from Jota’s stellar start to the season—you know, that small detail—the attack has been one of the few areas not yet affected by the ongoing injury crisis. That, in turn, has allowed Liverpool to at least kick on with some form of consistency throughout the campaign. And it is this consistency, which includes Klopp’s ability to rotate when and where it is needed, which could be threatened with a lengthy Jota absence.

Hopefully we get a good diagnosis in the next couple of days. Though, the injury gods don’t seem to be doing us any favors this year.
