Both players may be in contention to play against Fulham on Sunday

Jürgen Klopp provided some good news on the Liverpool injury front during his press conference on Friday. According to Klopp, goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both quite close to being available to play, and both have a chance to make the matchday squad on Sunday.

As long as Alisson doesn’t experience any setbacks as a result of training today, it sounds as though he will feature against Fulham this weekend.

“Ali will train today, that’s what I’ve heard,” said Klopp. “I came in and came directly to the press [conference] so all the meetings are after that and yes, Ali will train, and if he trains and all fine, then he can play.”

The exact timetable for Oxlade-Chamberlain was slightly less optimistic. Though he has been in full training and continues to regain his fitness, Klopp was more hesitant to commit to his chances of seeing the pitch so soon.

“Oxlade-Chamberlain is in normal training. He was doing parts of training for a week or so. We’ll see if the situation demands to involve him as soon as possible but I don’t know if this weekend is that moment.”

Unfortunately, that was the end of the positive injury updates. None of the other currently injured players are set for an imminent return. Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas, both of whom picked up knocks against FC Midtjylland on Wednesday, are still being assessed. They will join Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, and Xherdan Shaqiri in the stands on Sunday.
