Rumor Mongering: Mohamed Salah is Unhappy

Reports of successful players being unhappy and being courted by other big clubs pop up like weeds on pavement every week. This one hits close to our collective nerve centers however, since rumors suggest that our top scorer and “Egyptian King” Mohamed Salah is “unhappy” at Liverpool.
Goal reports that the prolific forward is frustrated with life at Anfield, according to his former international team-mate Mohamed Aboutrika. And apparently Liverpool are open to profiting from his sale, which will undoubtedly be astronomical. Emphasis on apparently.
“I called Salah about his situation at Liverpool and he is upset, but that would never affect his performance on the field,” Aboutrika told beIN Sports, according to Goal.
“I know that Salah is not happy in Liverpool, he told me the reasons why he is not happy but they are secrets and I cannot talk about it in public. One of the reasons that made Salah angry was that he was not the captain against Midtjylland.”
His disappointment at not being made captain for the game against FC Midtjylland was aired in some strange comments, where he said, “Honestly, I was very disappointed. I was expecting to be the captain... but it’s a manager’s decision, so I accept it.” This was the game that saw Trent Alexander-Arnold wear the captain’s armband instead, which in itself was a huge moment for him and the club.
In the same interview, he was asked about his future at Liverpool, to which he responded, “I think Madrid and Barcelona are top clubs... We never know what is going to happen in the future, but right now I’m focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League again with my club.
....right now I can say that everything is in the club’s hands. Of course I want to break records here and, I repeat, every record in the club, but everything’s in the hands of the club.”
In the following game against Crystal Palace, he was benched, but subbed on in the second half to then score a brace in Liverpool’s 7-0 demolition of Palace. The lineup choice could simply have been a decision to rest Salah due to the number of shifts he has put in lately (he played almost 90 minutes in each of Liverpool’s five previous matches), and give Takumi Minamino a starting opportunity, and may have had nothing to do with the interview.
What’s clear is that his alleged dissatisfaction has had no impact on his performance whatsoever, with the forward being on track to win his third Golden Boot if his current form continues. He is currently the Premier League’s top goalscorer, Liverpool’s top European goalscorer, and is on pace to produce another 40-goal season, as Zachary Marx suggests. He is no doubt an asset to the club, and one hopes that the niggling signs of displeasure are ironed out soon.
