Watch: All 22 Goals of Mohamed Salah’s Record-Setting Champions League Goals
The relentless striker has no intention of slowing down.
With an inelegant, stumbling, scuffed strike in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Midtjylland, Mohamed Salah moved past club legend Steven Gerrard into first on the Liverpool Champions League scoring charts with 22 goals to his name.
The Egyptian sharpshooter’s relentless hunger for goals has been the catalyst for countless special European nights for Liverpool supporters.
Reds supporters witnessed the newly-arrived winger open his account for the club through sheer force of will, wrestling the ball from a larger opponent and scoring from a heavily-deflected shot in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the 2017-18 campaign.
His side’s march to the final that year was built on more Salah goals, including a deft, juggling finish against Porto in round of 16 and two stadium-rocking strikes in each leg of a 5-1 aggregate quarterfinal win over rivals Manchester City.
Two golazos against future teammate Alisson were the highlight of a 5-2 first leg demolition of Roma in the semifinals before the Liverpool star was brutally knocked out of the 2018 final by Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos.
Picking right back up the next season, the #11 punched Liverpool’s ticket into the knockout rounds with the vital strike in a 1-0 victory over Napoli on the final group matchday.
More crucial goals followed including the all-important opener in the magical 2019 final against Tottenham, leading Liverpool to their sixth European Cup.
The goals have continued to flow including a sublime finish from a ridiculously acute angle against Red Bull Salzburg in the 2019-20 season, a trademark wriggling run and strike against Genk and a fabulous solo goal in this year’s 5-0 away win over Atalanta.
At 28-years-old, the inexorable goal machine has expressed no interest in slowing down and Liverpool supporters should expect to see that lead atop the scoring charts only grow wider in the seasons to come.
