The lead singer spoke to the club website about Reds fans’ use of one of their biggest songs.

Chris Francfort, the lead singer of The Gibson Brothers, spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about how delighted he was to learn about how Reds fans have repurposed his tune.

“I was very honoured that Liverpool fans chose our song to celebrate such a great player like Thiago Alcantara.”

He felt that the song’s use in football grounds (should fans ever return) is in line with the group’s intention with the song.

“Basically we wrote ‘Cuba’ to bring fun, joy and to make people dance. But the transfer of an excellent player is also happiness, so it fits very well the mood of the song.”

The singer is a fan of Liverpool the city, as he has a lot of respect for The Beatles.

“Liverpool is a very famous club and moreover it’s The Beatles’ city, of which I’m a big fan.”

He thinks Liverpool is a “great club,” and hopes to hear the song in the ground as soon as possible.

“Greetings to all Liverpool fans and I wish the club the best of success.”

Let’s all get singing. Jamie Webster can help:
