Liverpool Victory Over AC Milan “Not Our Best Game” Says Mané

Despite how dominant the Reds were at times, Sadio Mané sees room for improvement on Wednesday’s 3-2 victory.

For long stretches of Wednesday’s 3-2 Champions League victory over AC Milan, Liverpool were dominant. But they weren’t perfect, with missed chances and defensive lapses letting their opponents back into the game.

As a result, while there are many positives for the players to take away from the game and performance—not least the all-important three points—there’s also plenty of room for improvement according to Sadio Mané.

“It was not our best game but at the end of the day we won it so I think that’s what matters,” Mané said after the mantch. “For the first 20 minutes, half an hour, the boys did very well. It was unbelievable to watch them play like that.

“After, it was a little bit difficult for us to watch for sure, but they didn’t give up. They played as a team and created many chances and finally we scored goals two and three, so I think for sure we deserved to win tonight.”

With Atletico Madrid and FC Porto drawing in Group B’s other match on Wednesday evening, it gives the Reds an early lead in what looks to by some margin be the most difficult of this season’s Champions League groups.

They’ll take that lead—while trying to build on their performance—to Porto in two weeks for the second group stage match, but not until after league games against Crystal Palace and Brentford and a League Cup tie with Norwich.

“You see how many chances we created and if [we] lost it or drew, I think it would be very unfair,” Mané added. “We know that we have a tough group and it was very important for us to get the three points.”
