The AC Milan forward will remain at home due to a tendon strain.

Liverpool are all set to welcome AC Milan to Anfield today, but unfortunately the team will not include 39 year-old forward and general source of joy and frustration, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibrahimovic saw an Achilles’ tendon strain following Milan’s May 9 game against Lazio and has been ruled out against Liverpool as a precaution.

“Ibrahimovic would have started,” Milan manager Stefano Pioli said on Tuesday. “An inflamed tendon after four months out can happen. He was fine but after the match [on Sunday], he felt a little discomfort. This morning, he tried [to train], but he felt pain so there’s need to take such a risk at this time of the season.”

“Tomorrow’s is a hugely important game, but we have so many more,” Pioli added.

The fact that Ibrahimovic will not appear against Liverpool is surely a good thing.

“Zlatan, what a player, what a player!” Klopp gushed when asked about the Swedish international. “I think I saw a few videos of him when he got injured a few months ago or whenever it was and then I saw him early enough on the spinning bike, saw him fighting back and saying, ‘Lion’s don’t rest long’ or whatever. And he is always right. He came on in the last game after quite a long time and scored immediately.”

The AC Milan side will still pose a considerable threat to Liverpool, with Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leão most likely starting.
