Anfield Road Expansion to Reportedly Cost £20m More Than Expected
A global pandemic means construction costs more.
Liverpool’s famous Anfield has been the subject of facelift in recent years as the club’s owners are looking for ways to increase revenue. In 2016 the club finished the main stand extension, adding 8,500 seats to the iconic stadium.
The second stand to be aimed at for a rebuild is the Anfield Road end, but the Coronavirus pandemic delayed the start of construction in early 2020. And now, because of the pandemic, the original estimate for the construction is set to rise by £20m more.

Before the pandemic hit the world, Liverpool intended to spend £60m, but now it’ll cost £80m due to changes to the design and an increase in construction costs, with the work being done by Buckingham Group.
The construction broke ground on Thursday, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp doing the ceremonial first dig. The new stand will add 7,000 seats and will be completed for the 2023/24 Premier League season.
