The goalkeeper will be assessed before the match on Wednesday.

Having missed the big Manchester United game on Sunday due to illness, presumed starter against Preston North End, Caoimhin Kelleher, may miss out on Wednesday. It’s the League Cup, where Klopp is rumoured to be fielding a heavily rotated squad.

Normally, Kelleher would be expected to get the call, since Klopp has clearly put his trust in him. However, Kelleher is a massive doubt before the match is set to kick off. In his place will likely be Adrian.

This will be a blow to Kelleher, who grabbed a clean sheet in the team’s last League Cup against Norwich. He also started in Alisson’s place in the 5-0 win against Watford, though he had very little to do.

Alisson won’t be the only first team starter sitting this one out as the team gears up for games against Brighton and Atletico on the horizon. The whole back line is expected to be rotated. Kostas Tsimikas, Neco Williams, Joe Gomez will all likely be starting, with the only question mark being Gomez’s centre-back partner.

The midfield will be a little trickier, and it will be interesting to see how Klopp chooses to rotate his already injured-weakened crew. Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino must be on the cards, considering both scored against Norwich to get them through to this round. If Klopp plans to keep his usual shape, we may see either Diogo Jota or Sadio Mane along with them.

A victory on Wednesday would mean that Liverpool go through to the quarterfinals of the competition.
