Brighton “Relish the Challenge” of Facing In-Form Liverpool
Defender Adam Webster says the Seagulls will take confidence from their victory at Anfield last season.
Liverpool are in a good run of form, having won their last four games in all competitions, sitting just a point off first in the Premier League, and having not lost any of their 14 games played to date as we near the end of the third month of the 2021-22 season.
Upcoming opponents Brighton, though, say that they are up for the challenge of facing off against Jürgen Klopp’s high-flying Reds on Saturday in league action—and they’ll be looking to last season for a little inspiration ahead of the kickoff.
“We won there 1-0 last season and that was amazing,” noted defender Adam Webster. “This time there will be a full house and they will have a few players back. They are flying, so we are going to have to be on the top of our game, but we’ll relish the challenge.”
After struggling to get the results their play deserved and finishing 16th last season, Brighton’s results in 2021-22 have so far been much more positive as the Seagulls sat fifth—ahead of Man United, Arsenal, and Leicester City.
However, it’s worth noting that while in 2020-21 they finished 16th despite having the fifth best expected points numbers in the Premier League, this season they sit fifth while having just the 13th best expected points numbers.
It’s perhaps fair to suggest, then, that despite their better position in the table, this Brighton side are in fact not playing nearly as well as the one that finished last season flirting with the relegation places while beating the Reds 1-0 when they visited Anfield.
Still, it’s not a match the Reds can take lightly if they’re to continue their stellar form and keep pace with title rivals Manchester City and Chelsea, who are set to take on Crystal Palace and Newcastle United respectively this weekend.
