Liverpool may have a frontline containing the Premier League top scorer and the two attackers with the highest expected goals and assists numbers in the country, but that doesn’t mean their recruitment team is resting on its laurels, and the expectation is that the summer of 2022 will herald the arrival of at least one new attacking piece at the club.
Karim Adeyemi has exploded onto the European scene over the past year, following up an impressive league campaign — the 19-year old scored seven and assisted seven goals in a little under 1100 Austrian Bundesliga minutes last year — with a hot start domestically and game changing displays in the Champions League this season.
As such, the Salzburg attacker has been strongly linked with a move this summer, and according to Sky Germany, he will definitely leave die roten Bullen after the season has ended, with a transfer fee in the region of €30m to €40m being suggested.
Mostly playing as a centre-forward in Matthias Jassle’s 4-3-1-2, Adeyemi loves drifting into the wide areas and attacking the centre with diagonal runs, where his Nazário-esque directness and combination of size, strength, pace and close control makes him a nightmare for defenders. A busy presser and remarkably two-footed, the 19-year old looks just about tailor-made for Jürgen Klopp’s frontline, and the Reds’ interest is unsurprising, despite the club choosing not to sign the player during a trial back in 2018.
However, Sky’s Marc Behrenbeck indicates that the 5’11 striker’s plans involve a return a to Germany before potentially taking his talents abroad, which usually means that either RB Leipzig have some sort of option on their sister club’s players, or Bayern Munich are flexing their significant influence with German footballers.
Hopefully, Klopp and his crew can convince the budding superstar that his future would be best served by moving to Anfield early, and that the Reds can steal a march on their contenders by snatching up a gifted player before they’ve established themselves in one of the continent’s top leagues.
