Slot on Liverpool Job: “The Question Is When It Will Be Communicated”
Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is expected to take over for Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool but the move is yet to be officially announced.
Liverpool by all accounts have landed on Feyenoord’s 45-year-old Dutch manager Arne Slot as the man to replace the departing legend that is Jürgen Klopp, but after a flurry of reports of the deal being on the verge of completion late in April things have gone rather quiet.
That doesn’t mean there’s any reason to doubt Slot will become the club’s 22nd full time manager. Slot has so far managed to avoid explicitly saying he’s the Reds next coach, but he came about as close as possible to doing so after his side’s 5-0 victory over PEC Zwolle on Sunday.
“Because of all the rumours in the media I think they are expecting me to leave,” Slot said of the atmosphere at what was Feyenoord’s penultimate home game of the season, one that at times felt like a celebration of his time at the club. “Yeah, that is something we could say.
Slot also went on to confirm that he had watched the first half of Sunday’s 4-2 Liverpool victory over Tottenham before heading to the stadium for the Feyenoord match, and that he has an existing friendly relationship and often talks with departing Klopp assistant Pepijn Lijnders.
“I’m not worried at all about whether it will go ahead,” Liverpool’s next manager added of his yet to be officially announced move to take over the storied Premier League side. “The question is when it will be communicated.”
