International Round Up: Scotland Alive, England Stutters
Euros 2024 action continues for many Liverpool players.
The second round of the group stages have begun in the 2024 European Championship. In Group A, Dominik Szoboszlai’s Hungary lost 2-0 to Germany. This puts them at the bottom of the table with zero points.
Meanwhile Scotland, lead by Liverpool vice captain Andy Robertson, got a lifeline on Wednesday when they drew against 1-1 against Switzerland. This gives them a crucial point and keeps their hopes alive to progress and maybe even get in the top two.
Unsurprisingly, hosts Germany became the first team to progress in the competition after winning both of their opening games by a healthy margin. Their last game is against Switzerland, while Hungary and Scotland will play each other to determine which other team is guaranteed passage through.
In group C, England dropped an early lead thanks to a Harry Kane goal and ended up drawing 1-1 with Denmark. Slovenia and Serbia, the other teams in the group, came out of their match on Thursday with the same result. This means that England stays at the top of the table with four points, but their job is a bit harder when they face Slovenia in the final group stage game.
On Friday, Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch will represent Netherlands against Reds’ teammate Ibrahima Konaté and the French team.
