Rumour Mongering: Hancko Liverpool Links Flourish After Euros Star Turn

Belgium v Slovakia: Group E - UEFA EURO 2024

David Hancko was a standout for Slovakia on Monday so of course everyone wants to link the Feyenoord centre half with the Reds.

David Hancko played at Feyenoord under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot. David Hancko is a centre half, the position Liverpool have been most linked with new signings for this summer. David Hancko was the star of Slovakia’s 1-0 victory over Belgium on Monday at Euro 2024.

Add it up and the sudden flurry of transfer chatter around the 26-year-old seems entirely inevitable. It also makes for a story that while it perhaps cannot be dismissed entirely feels most likely to end up nothing more than rumour mongers building a story out of obvious connections.

Nobody reputable has attached their name to it, but the tabloids and transfer pages have spent the last day or two asking if Hancko to Liverpool could be on. The player has said he’s just focused on the Euros, but his wife has admitted they’ll look to move on from Feyenoord this summer.

If he does depart the Dutch club, though, he won’t come as a bargain with four years left on his contract and a rumoured £30M valuation—it’s also possibly worth noting that in talking about their intention to move on this summer, his wife talked up Spain and Italy as potential destinations.

Mostly, though, it’s hard to see where a prime age player like Hancko who wouldn’t slot into the starting eleven would fit in Liverpool’s squad, as he would likely end up competing with Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah—a player with clear and massive upside—for minutes as third choice.
