Left back Rayan Ait Nouri is rumoured to be leaving Wolves this summer with Liverpool favourites to sign the Algerian international.

There seem few places in Liverpool’s current squad where it could be said to be obvious that new signings are needed, but departures could change the equation and one position where there’s been some chatter on that front is left back.

There, Andy Robertson is 30 years old and undisputed first choice but there have been questions around 28-year-old backup Kostas Tsimikas, a player who good enough to start elsewhere and too close in age to Robertson to be viewed as a successor.

Many expect Tsimikas to move on this summer as a result—and it appears the club may have already lined up his replacement. That’s following a potentially reliable report that Liverpool are leaders to sign Wolves’ Rayan Ait Nouri.

According to Algerian journalist Abdel Hamed, the 23-year-old French-born Algerian international is set to depart Wolves this summer and while he’s been tracked by Chelsea and Manchester City, it’s Liverpool who are favourites.

Ait Nouri’s attacking profile would seem a good fit for the Reds, and despite his age he’s played 116 games over four seasons since joining Wolves from Angers. The only question, perhaps, is if he’s too good to be signed as a backup.

Competition for a starting role would also be tough at the other linked clubs, though, and Ait Nouri would be more than good enough to share the workload with Robertson now with an eye to perhaps becoming the starter in the future.
