Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Linked with Leverkusen’s Kossounou
More centre-back links!
According to Stefan Bienkowksi, who covers the Bundesliga for Transfermarkt and the Telegraph, Liverpool FC have been linked to Bayer Leverkusen’s 23-year-old Ivorian centre-back Odilon Kossounou.
He also mentions West Ham United and Manchester United as other interested parties.

I understand the club do rate the 23-year-old talent but not adverse to selling at the right price. Feeling is that he wouldn’t be hard to replace.
It has been clear now that Liverpool are looking to add a centre-back to their squad since Joël Matip's contract expired this summer. In Kossounou, they have another long-limbed defender who excels at tackling the ball cleanly.
Primarily a centre-back playing in the right of Leverkusen’s back-three, he has also filled in at right-back, which instantly brings up comparisons to Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida, who has also been linked to a move to Merseyside, mainly due to his links with our new coach, Arne Slot. Like Matip, Kossounou loves to carry the ball up the field and is an excellent short to medium passer, with some lock-range passing in his locker. It’s easy to see how Liverpool could envision him fitting into their squad. One question mark is present in the form of his aerial ability, FBref has him in the 10th percentile for aerials won with 1.24 per 90. If Slot does stick with a back four, it’s hard to see how that potential weakness could be hidden.
Either way, we’ll see if more develops on this front.
