Lucas Stephenson will play for the Scottish side for the entirety of the upcoming 2024-2025 season.

Liverpool’s transfer dealings have taken on a bit of tragicomic view for some fans of late with the failed signing of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubamendi - which undoubtedly reignited the memories of the previous summer’s public failures to land Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Time will tell how Liverpool’s inability to close the deal on Zubamendi will play out, but it’s more than fair to say that last year’s team more than acquitted themselves in the debate on who won out in those supposed transfer debacles.

It is because of that, dear reader, that I’ve generally been pretty cool and collected about how the summer has gone. Mostly because, the club haven’t given me a whole lot of reason over the last 10 years or so to be overly concerned with public transfer misses. Simply put, when the club lets a player walk, it’s mostly because they don’t have enough in the tank to do what we need. And we when swing for the fences - even if we fail - it’s often for indisputably talented players. Which should underscore just how stacked the current team is, where we recognize that the likes of Zubamendi, Caicedo, Bellingham, and Tchouameni were the types that would improve the squad.

And so, I preface all of that to drop some minor transfer news that might rankle a few: Academy player Lucas Stephenson has completed a season-long loan to the Scottish Premiership’s Dundee United. The young midfielder was part of the Reds’ traveling squad during their US tour and did feature in most of the pre-season matches.

It is, then, another outgoing on the men’s side of things with no major rumblings or whispers about any other incomings. The new season is on the horizon. Hold on to your butts.
