The forward will be a father of three soon.

Diogo Jota was a game-changer in Liverpool FC’s 5-1 win against West Ham United. First, he bravely rose in the box to nod home Federico Chiesa’s acrobatic scissor kick attempt to tie up the game at 1-1 before calmly slotting home his second later.

After equalising, Jota celebrated in a way we hadn’t seen from him— he took the ball and tucked it under his shirt while sucking on his thumb.

As he explained to LFC TV, it was a tribute to his girlfriend, who is expecting with their third child:

“My girlfriend is pregnant again and it’s almost time. I’m happy outside of the pitch because of that.”

“For the third time, it’s coming quick and fast! But I’m enjoying it, it’s the most important.”

Jota headed off the pitch at the 60th minute mark, perhaps to save him for the weekend’s fixture against his former club Wolves. Head coach Arne Slot explained the decision:

“I think we are trying to manage his minutes like the others in the best possible way. But we also try to prepare them during the week and during the first months of pre-season to prepare them for so many games in the Premier League.”

Next up, Liverpool will travel to Molineux to take on Wolves on Saturday afternoon. Up the Reds!
