The midfielder is one of many Liverpool players active during the early international break

Alexis Mac Allister scored Argentina’s opening goal in their decisive 3-0 win against Chile in the South American section of World Cup 2026 qualifying. Mac Allister’s side find themselves at the top of their qualifying group at this stage, having won six of their seven qualifiers thus far.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Mac Allister’s heroics come with a cost: the midfielder was marked as a “potential injury concern” for coach Lionel Scaloni upon his arrival at international duty and had previously been left out of training.

He did show some discomfort when substituted in the 3-0 win against Chile, and Scaloni has stated he will be assessed ahead of Argentina’s next match against Colombia on Tuesday.

While Mac Allister is not at present a confirmed injury, these precautions will make many nervous on Merseyside. Liverpool next play Nottingham Forest on September 14th.
