Injury to Sideline Liverpool Goalkeeper Alisson Through November Break
The Liverpool and Brazil shot stopper is expected to return to action following the November international break at the earliest.
When Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker went down holding his hamstring against Crystal Palace and had to gingerly leave the pitch, expectations were for a best case scenario one to two month layoff for the Brazilian international.
Today, that timeline has been confirmed, with the shot stopper expected to miss at least six full weeks of action and ruled out at least through the November international break and setting a possible return on November 24th against Southampton.
Between the October and November international windows, Liverpool face one of the toughest scheduling stretches of their 2024-25 season, with games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton, and Aston Villa in the league and European dates against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.
However, a late November return could mean that Alisson will be ready in time to face Real Madrid in the Champions League on the 27th and Manchester City in the Premier League on December 1st.
If his recovery runs longer than the expected six week window, though, and sees those Madrid and City matches added to the mix, it would be impossible to argue he hasn’t been sidelined for the toughest run of fixtures the Reds are likely to face this season.
In his absence, Caoimhin Kelleher will be asked to step up as he did last season when Alisson was sidelined for a significant run of games, leading to ten league starts in 2023-24 for Liverpool’s highly capable second choice in goal.
