Good news is good news.

While it’s probably not the contract extension news that Liverpool FC fans are craving for, Fraudbrizio Romano is reporting that Ibrahima Konaté is close to agreeing a new contract.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano offered this update:

Liverpool are making very good progress in negotiations with Ibrahima Konate. The expectation at Liverpool is that Ibou Konate will be the next one to reach an agreement on a new contract. The salary is almost agreed; it’s about some details of the contract.

“There are more things to clarify with the player and his agents, but Ibou Konate is very happy at Liverpool. He can feel how important he is for Liverpool and also for the new manager Arne Slot. Ibou Konate is fully expected to sign a new deal at Liverpool.”

After an injury-hit season last year, Konaté has been tremendous, winning everything in the air, and his partnership with captain Virgil van Dijk has been the backbone of the Premier League’s best defensive record. Locking up the now-French captain early is a wise move, and ensures that a key piece of the Liverpool spine is here for years to come. Here’s hoping more deals get agreed before the end of the year.
