The Liverpool FC Women’s captain scored a brace to give her side a lead over Aston Villa, and the Reds managed to hold on for a 2-1 win in the WSL.

The Liverpool FC Women collected just their second win in six matches on Sunday, defeating Aston Villa behind a brace from captain Taylor Hinds. After dropping points from a winning position against Leicester City, West Ham, and Manchester City, Hinds was very happy with the fight her team showed to the final whistle.

“Obviously I’m delighted on a personal note, but for the team as well. We did really well. We fought until the end and got the three points.”

“As a collective we all support each other, we all motivate each other. We’ve just got to stick through it until the end. We did that and the character of the team was unbelievable.”

Hinds was happy to contribute both on the attacking end, as well as making an impact defensively. She feels well suited to the wing back role in manager Matt Beard’s system.

“I like to contribute at both ends of the pitch, as a wing-back it suits me really well. To get goals and assists and help defend for the team as well, that’s what I like to do.”

Hinds believes the win will provide a moral boost and motivation as Liverpool head into a match against the 5-time reigning WSL champions Chelsea next weekend.

“It gives us that motivation for the next game. Obviously we’ve got a tough game next weekend. It has been hard this season. We knew it was going to be tough as well. But we’ve got high standards for ourselves and we want those three points. We’ve just got to keep fighting.”
