The young midfielder’s time at RB Salzburg has gone poorly with the player pushing for a change in the second half of the season.

Stefan Bajcetic’s decision to join RB Salzburg on loan for the 2024-25 season made a great deal of sense at the time, with the midfielder following Liverpool assistant Pepijn Lijnders to the Austrian league as that club’s new manager and expecting to get plenty of minutes.

After struggling to get back on track following an injury setback, it was a move meant to get the promising 20-year-old to a place where he could return to the Reds in the summer and contribute next season in the first team. Reality didn’t come close to meeting those hopes.

Now, with Lijnders sacked at Salzburg and Bajcetic’s minutes limited, the player has been pushing for a new loan home in the second half of the season, and despite rumoured Porto interest the youngster appears set now to join up with mid-table La Liga side Las Palmas.

That’s the latest according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, who says that Liverpool were willing to let the player see out his loan in Austria but that Bajcetic had had enough and now appears to have picked his new home with the close of the January transfer window near.

On paper, Porto look a stronger side—but La Liga where Las Palmas current sit 15th is the stronger league. Hopefully this time Bajcetic’s loan move is the right loan move and over the next four months he can find his way back to where he was a couple of seasons ago.
