Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool move hasn’t gone to plan and the 27-year-old could end up back in Italy this summer with at least three clubs said to be interested.

With the 2024-25 Premier League season heading into its final month and Liverpool having all but mathematically secured what will be a record-tying 20th domestic league title, the focus for many has begun to shift to the summer and transfer plans.

Amidst the chatter about potential incomings, there is also a heavy dose of departure talk, particularly surrounding a handful of players who have never managed to earn the favour of manager Arne Slot, a list that includes winger Federico Chiesa.

Having arrived last summer as a relatively low-risk £10M signing of opportunity from Juventus, it does seem a near certainty Chiesa will depart after just the one season, and most of the transfer chatter has focused on a potential return to Italy.

Now, Calcio Mercato claim there are three potential Serie A landing spots for the winger, with Inter said to be his most likely suitors followed by Napoli and Roma. However, for any to be an option, it is said that Chiesa would have to agree a pay cut.

In recent weeks, there have also been suggestions of interest from Turkey, with Fenerbahce in particular rumoured to be sniffing around. Cheisa has only made four Premier League appearances this season for Liverpool totalling 33 minutes.

If there was ever any hope the 27-year-old could establish himself as successor to Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian’s standout season and now two-year extension confirms what Chiesa’s lack of playing time already made clear: that isn’t going to happen.

It all feels a little unfortunate, but then transfers can fail for any number of reasons and by all accounts Chiesa has remained a positive squad influence despite his lack of playing time. Hopefully, wherever he lands, he plays more next season.
