According to the transfer chatter, a move to another English club for 20-year-old centre half Dean Huijsen is the likeliest outcome this summer.

Heading into the summer transfer window, one of the most talked about potential moves in English football is an expected change of clubs Bournemouth’s 20-year-old Dutch-born Spanish international centre half Dean Huijsen.

That Huijsen is top young talent coming off a solid season and has a £50M release clause is plenty of reasons clubs might want to sign the player, but until recently the assumption was that he was destined for Real Madrid.

The player, who grew up in the youth systems at Marbella and Malaga on the Spanish coast, has previously talked about wanting to move to Madrid sooner or later—and many thought that might happen as soon as this summer.

According to the a smattering of football journos including Liverpool-connected David Lynch and transfer churn monetizer Fabrizio Romano, though, Madrid have backed off of any plans to potentially sign him this summer.

That leaves a top young player with a release clause most consider reasonable for his level of talent—and the expectation he could play regularly for a top club straight away—and a handful of English clubs sniffing around.

Liverpool are widely believed to be one of them. Arsenal and Chelsea are the other big names currently being linked. If all of the information floating around is accurate, it wouldn’t be a stretch to cast the Reds as favourites.

Huijsen might well imagine himself at Madrid one day, but given his age there’s no reason he couldn’t make an impact for Liverpool, Arsenal, or Chelsea for a few or as many as six seasons before making such a switch.

It will be interesting, then, to see how this story develops. If Madrid really are backing away from signing Huijsen—or any other centre half—this summer, it will come down to convincing the player and triggering his release.
