Olivia Smith Sweeps Liverpool FC Women Player Of The Year Awards

The Canadian attacker was voted the best young player as well as the player of the season for the Reds while Niamh Fahey was given the Club Person of the Year award.
The Liverpool FC Women wrapped up their campaign with a loss to Chelsea, which dropped the Reds to a disappointing seventh place in the final WSL table. While the season was ultimately one of frustration and upheaval, there was a very bright silver lining.
The club’s most expensive signing, 20 year old Olivia Smith, had a sensational first season for Liverpool. Smith led the team with seven goals in league play and nine goals in all competitions. She showcased electric pace and dynamic dribbling that had everyone holding their breath every time Smith was on the ball. Smith has been nominated for the WSL player of the season, and this past week was given two major club awards. On Friday, Smith was named the recipient of both the Player’s Young Player of the Year as well as the Player’s Player of the Year. Both awards were voted on by hear teammates.
One other award was given out during the ceremony. Niamh Fahey was voted Club Person of the Year in recognition of her contributions across the board. Fahey recently announced she would be retiring from her playing career. She has been working on her coaching certifications over the past year and will likely be making the jump into the next phase of her career in the sport. Fahey spent seven seasons with Liverpool and was an integral part of the club’s resurgence back into the WSL as both a player and a leader.
