Robertson and Scotland Prepared for Showdown with Alisson and Brazil
Scotland head into their final group stage game at the World Cup knowing that a draw would be enough to assure them of advancing to the knockout rounds as, at worst, one of the top eight third-place group finishers. They face the toughest of challenges, though, with Brazil their opponents.
Brazil themselves are assured of advancing, but they’re level on points with Morocco with four and only in first place due to goal differential. If they want to top the group, at the very least they need to win—and preferably by a few goals. For Scotland, then, the challenge is clear, and former Liverpool star Andy Robertson is looking forward to it and forward to facing down long-time club teammate Alisson Becker.
“I hope he’s picking the ball out of the net maybe a couple of times,” Robertson said when asked about facing off against Liverpool’s legendary goalkeeper when speaking to the press ahead of kickoff. “That’d be more than I’m used to—he’s the best goalkeeper in the world for me and he has been for so many years.
“I can’t speak highly enough of him as a player and person, but hopefully he doesn’t keep a clean sheet. I’d like to think the squad respects me, but I’m not sure how much they respect my shooting so I don’t think they’ll want to look for advice from me on how to beat him. But he really is an unbelievable goalkeeper and even better person. He’s someone that I admire so much.”
Scotland and Brazil as well as Group C’s other match between Morocco and Haiti both kick off at 6PM EST/11PM BST tonight, with the matches broadcast on Fox and FS1 in the US and ITV and BBC in the UK.
