The Liverpool Offside’s World Cup Reacts Week Two Survey
For our 2026 World Cup week two SB Nations Reacts! survey, we leave behind the big picture tournament questions of the week one and pre-World Cup surveys and turn our attention to Liverpool with just one very important question for Liverpool fans and TLO readers to answer.
Namely, with all of Liverpool’s players and their nations having now played two World Cup matches, we want to know which current Red readers think has put in the best overall performance at the World Cup.
We think there are a lot of good options to choose from, with three Reds earning Man of the Match honours already and Liverpool’s stars combining for 12 goal involvements so far in the tournament, more than the contribution any other club’s players have made. So, let’s dig into it!
Running through the options we’ll start with A for Argentina and Alexis Mac Allister. Macca had a rough club season but put in probably his best performance in a year in Argentina’s opener against Algeria before having a slightly less noteworthy but still solid game two against Austria, with Argentina winning both and locking down first place in Group J.
Then there’s Alisson Becker, who has backstopped Brazil to the top of Group C with one goal conceded against an impressive Morocco in a 1-1 draw in the opener and then a shutout in a win over Haiti.
With Germany, Florian Wirtz has only recorded an assist in 180 minutes so far, but he’s been an attacking focal point for Die Mannschaft as they’ve locked down first in Group E with wins over Curacao and Cote d’Ivoire.
Netherlands give us a pair of options, with captain Virgil van Dijk earning Man of the Match honours for their hard-fought 2-2 opening draw against Japan and Cody Gakpo recording two goals and an assist (and Man of the Match honours for good measure) in their 5-1 hammering of Sweden in game two. Ryan Gravenberch has also played well, but we’ve only got six slots in these surveys so unfortunately somebody has to drop out.
Speaking of Sweden, Alexander Isak was named Man of the Match for their 5-1 opening day win against Tunisia and then was their brightest spot in that second game defeat to Netherlands, creating plenty of chances that his teammates unfortunately couldn’t finish. In total, he has a goal and three assists so far.
