Liverpool Academy Weekly Round-Up: Reds sign Anderson Arroyo, U18s unbeaten run ended
It’s been a difficult week at the Kirkby Academy for Liverpool off the pitch, but it ended with some good news off, as the Reds bring in a promising youth international.
Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Colombian youth international Anderson Arroyo, but has immediately been sent out on an 18-month loan deal to Real Mallorca.

Arroyo is unable to obtain a work permit, and the full-back can play on either side and has made 22 first-team appearances for Colombian side Fortaleza.
After impressing whilst on trial at Kirkby in July 2016, Liverpool have decided to pursue the full-back, two weeks on from signing Tony Gallacher from Falkirk.
Gallacher made his debut for the Reds in a disappointing night for the U23s, who ended with nine-men in their 1-0 defeat to Spurs on Monday evening.
Jack Roles scored the only goal of the game in the second half, but that wasn’t the full story in a frantic game in Stevenage, as their lead at the top of Premier League 2 is cut to just a point.

George Johnston and Adam Lallana were dismissed for Neil Critchley’s side, who also fielded Danny Ings, Ben Woodburn and Dominic Solanke in a strong line-up.
Liverpool U23s: Grabara, Masterson, Lewis, Johnston, Gallacher, Kane, Dhanda (Millar, 72), Lallana, Ings, Solanke, Woodburn.
After the game, Gallacher revealed how he was ‘settling in well’, but Critchley described his performance at centre-back as ‘difficult’, with left-back Adam Lewis being ‘excellent’ in his position.

Staying with the U23s, and former coach and current Academy coach Michael Beale has been linked with the vacant Oxford United job.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Beale, who had a spell as assistant manager out in Brazil last year, had two sets of discussions with the Oxford owner Darryl Eales about replacing the sacked Pep Clotet.
It was also revealed that Beale turned down a manager’s position in League Two and an assistant manager’s position in League One back in December.
The U23s weren’t the only team to suffer defeat this week, with the U18s seeing their unbeaten run in the Premier League come to a disappointing end, losing 2-1 at home to Stoke on Friday night.

Liverpool’s stand-in captain Glen McAuley put the Reds ahead in the 24th minute with his 12th goal of the season, before Jordan Greenidge and a last-minute penalty from Krisztofer Szereto inflicted a first league defeat for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Liverpool U18s: Kelleher; N. Williams, Larouci (Millar, 59), R. Williams (Bearne, 82), Boyes; Clayton, Sharif, Dixon-Bonner, McAuley; Camacho (Brookwell, 70), Tagseth.
Summer signing Jack Bearne came in the final eight minutes, and despite this being their third consecutive defeat, Gerrard predicted that the former Notts County man will be ‘a player’ at U18 level in the near future.
Finally, Liverpool U19s have been drawn at home to Manchester United in the last 16 of UEFA Youth League and will be played on the 20th or 21st February with the date yet to be confirmed.
