Salah: “Everyone performed very well today”

Mohamed Salah hailed a strong team performance as Liverpool moved to within two points of second place by beating Southampton 2-0 on Sunday evening.

Roberto Firmino put his side in front after just six minutes, firing into the bottom corner after Salah played the ball into his path.

The Brazilian then turned creator for the second, with Salah finding the net after a sensational one-two.

Reflecting on the victory, the Egyptian emphasised the importance of the early opener, which forced Southampton to abandon their defensive approach.

“Three points is very important for us,” he said. “The early goal made the game a bit easier, everyone performed very well today.

“When you score first, it makes the game easier and a bit less pressure, and we have to keep going now.”

It was Salah’s 22nd league of goal in a phenomenal season and his 29th in all competitions, but the 25-year-old remains humble.

“I’m always thinking to help the team, that’s the most important thing. I have to think about the next game now, we need to carry on.”

Up next for the Reds is a trip to Porto for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
