Roma Take Strong Stance on Potential Alisson Sale

The rumoured Liverpool and Real Madrid target isn’t going to be sold according to the club’s co-owner.

Despite being regularly linked with a big summer move—first to Liverpool and more recently to Real Madrid as well—Roma have no plans on selling star goalkeeper Alisson Becker this summer according to co-owner James Pallotta.

“It’s frustrating for me because people believe Roma is a supermarket,” Pallotta said today when asked about recent rumours suggesting the Serie A side had slapped a €60M price tag on Roma and Brazil’s number one shot stopper.

“We do not want to sell players—these guys are on long-term contracts and we have no intention of them leaving the club. Monchi faces the difficulty of financial fair play but we have identified a plan and strategy to continue to improve the team.”

As Liverpool fans well know from being on both sides of difficult and acrimonious transfer dealings, not for sale doesn’t mean a player can’t be sold—but when a club like Roma put their foot down it at least makes things much more difficult.

Certainly more difficult than a €60M price tag would. So it’s probably a good thing that it appears as though while Roma are positioning themselves to fend off a sale—or to at least get the absolute maximum return possible from one—Liverpool have moved on.

Not from Alisson to another goalkeeper, but rather from their plans to make a big signing for the position this summer, as it appears that Loris Karius has—barring a complete collapse in form at least—won the starting job long-term.
