Sadio Mané Convinced Liverpool Can Win Champions League in 2018

The star winger believes Liverpool can win Europe’s top prize for the first time since 2005.

Liverpool are one of the final eight teams in the Champions League and have shown this season that, on their day, they can beat any other side in the game. Which makes them real contenders to win Europe’s top prize this season.

That’s how attacker Sadio Mané sees it, with the Senegalese star not worried about who his side face next—believing that at this stage, it’s almost only the best sides left in the competition and that Liverpool, too, are one of the best.

“There are almost only top clubs left in the race,” Mane told ESPN. “We are all aware that if you want to become a champion you must [beat] champions. We’ve got the quality to beat every team in the world. And we’ll try exactly that.”

Liverpool will learn their next opponents at 11AM GMT on Friday when the draw is held for the quarter-finals, and though many will have their preferences for who Liverpool face, the Reds will count themselves contenders regardless.

More important than who they draw might turn out to be whether they get to play the second leg at Anfield, something that always stands as an advantage in Europe. Whatever happens, though, Mané and Liverpool will be feeling confident.

”Why should Liverpool not be on top in 2018?” the winger added. “We want to win the Champions League. I am convinced we can do it for the first time since 2005.”
