Watford Reportedly Slap £40M Price Tag On Doucoure

The Hornets are hoping for a payday from one of the “Big Six.”

When Liverpool agreed to shell out £35 million for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, despite less than a year left on his contract, it confirmed what many of us already knew: we had entered a new era of transfer wheeling and dealing. Suddenly £35-40 million was what clubs such as Liverpool would need to pay for occasional starters.

This brings us to Abdoulaye Doucoure, the Watford defensive midfielder who has been tentatively linked to Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham in recent months. Watford brought the Malian midfielder for a scant £6 million from Granada in the summer of 2016, and now are looking to move him on for £40 milllion, according to The Mirror.

Reportedly, Watford are keen to keep their club in the black, which would require selling either Doucoure or attacking midfielder Richarlison in the upcoming summer transfer window.

For what it’s worth, Doucoure has really kicked on this season at Vicarage Road, leading the Hornets in goals scored with seven, and adding two assists. It’s not a bad return at all for a midfielder.

Although more exotic names such as Jorginho tops most fans’ wish lists, Doucoure would be a good backup option, even with a Big Six premium price slapped on his back.
