Sadio Mané Says Signing Nabil Fekir Would be “Fire”

We agree, Sadio. We agree.
The outlet that kicked off this week’s Nabil Fekir to Liverpool rumours, France’s RMC, are widely regarded as the most reliable source for French football news. On the other hand, sources close to Liverpool have cast doubt—even if they haven’t ruled it out completely.
Liverpool fans, though, are excited by the possibility—even if it might in the end come to nothing—of the exciting and versatile French-Algerian attacker ending up at Anfield this summer. And it turns out that the fans aren’t the only ones excited by the thought of it.
“Nabil is a really great player,” Sadio Mané said when asked by French television about the rumour following Sunday’s match against Chelsea. “If it’s the case, I think he would do great things with us. You always need that kind of player. If we get him, it’s going to be fire.”
Fekir has shown an ability to play on the wing, off the striker, and as an attacking midfielder—a level of positional flexibility that would see him fit in perfectly with Mané, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino and give Jürgen Klopp some much needed depth in attack.
He could also line up in midfield as the more advanced shuttler in Klopp’s favoured 4-3-3. And, whatever his role, his 22 goals and seven assists this season at a rate of a goal or assist every 106 minutes would certainly help to once again give Liverpool an attacking fab four.
With it becoming clear this year that while Liverpool have a starting eleven more than good enough to beat anyone they lack the quality depth to win consistently, having four attacking superstars to rotate through three positions needs to be a goal in the transfer market.
And getting Fekir in as that attacking superstar would, indeed, be fire. Just like Mané says. For now, though, all we can do is wait and hope.
