Former Liverpool boss rules out move for Danny Ings

The striker will seek a move away from the Reds this summer as he seeks more playing time and there are a number of clubs interested in the forward.

Ings has two-years left on his contract which would not allow Liverpool to demand a lucrative fee in the transfer market. The Reds actually offered Ings a new long-term deal, but he feels a move away is best to rejuvenate his career.

Speaking to Sky Sports New, Rodgers said: “Danny (Ings) is a fantastic player and has been really, really unfortunate for a few years with injury but I have got the three strikers at the moment and we don’t need any more.”

“We just signed young Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal and he is a class act. We also have Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths so with those three we are well covered.

Ings had a solid start to his Liverpool career and scored in Brendan Rodgers final game against Everton but injuries have played a huge part in hampering his Liverpool career.

The Englishman, who has played for once for England, believes that competition for places against the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and with the emergence of younger talent such as Dominic Solanke means that minutes will be too hard to come by.

Ings, 25, was linked with a move backed to his former club Burnley but a move back to Turf Moor looks unlikely.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Burnley currently has no interest in bringing the 25-year-old back to the club as they focus on a return for another former striker, in Jay Rodriguez, instead.
