Rumor Mongering: Thomas Strakosha Rumors Persist

The Lazio goalkeeper continues to be linked by Italian press to an Anfield move.

Have you heard? Liverpool might be in for a new goalkeeper! The links to new goalkeepers largely dried up in the second half of the season, but then the Champions League final—Sergio Ramos elbows notwithstanding—happened.

Despite the real and understandable mitigating circumstances (it’s called a “concussion” Real Madrid fans), questions have been and will continue to be asked whether Loris Karius can come back mentally from such a disastrous performance on the world’s biggest stage.

As such, goalkeepers from all across Europe have been linked to an Anfield move. Indeed, there has been a goalkeeper du jour most days since the Champions League final. However, a few goalkeeper rumors have persisted, including Lazio’s #1, Thomas Strakosha.

This morning Italian publication Calcio Mercato is reporting that Liverpool can have the 23-year-old keeper for £30 million, and that Lazio is already shopping for experienced replacements, including Iker Casillas.

Strakosha helped Lazio to a 5th-placed finish (missing Champions League qualification only on goal differential), and to the quarterfinals in the Europa League, playing all but two Europa League matches.

Whether there is anything to these rumors, or whether Strakosha would be a significant improvement for Liverpool is up to open debate. But the rumors persist, so it seems like he’s at least open to a move, to Anfield or elsewhere (Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be interested).
