World Cup 2018: Round of 16 Schedule and How to Watch France vs. Argentina
We’re into the knockout rounds and France vs. Argentina headline day one of the Round of 16.

The World Cup is past its half-way point and we’re into the knockout rounds, and to kick things off we’ve got France vs. Argentina. France were the side many picked as World Cup favourites heading in but they underwhelmed in the group stage, finishing first in Group C without ever really impressing with a pair of one goal victories over Australia and Peru and a draw with Denmark. Still, they’re here now and they’re talented, and if they can deliver a performance on par with that talent they can beat anyone.
As for Argentina, the group stage was a near disaster. A draw with Iceland and defeat to Croatia had them all but heading home as the team descended into chaos and reports of a player coup against manager Jorge Sampaoli. Nobody’s quite sure what actually happened, but the result was an Argentina side that looked at least competent and, with the help of an inspired Lionel Messi, salvaged their World Cup with a final group stage game victory over Nigeria.
The day’s second game then pits Uruguay vs. Portugal, and as with the two opponents in the first match, nobody’s quite sure how good either is. Uruguay impressed in their own solid, defensive, and slightly unexciting way as they cruised through the easiest group in the tournament. Portugal, meanwhile, did just enough to top one of the hardest groups thanks to the heroics of Cristiano Ronaldo, who’s been player of the tournament so far—but beyond him, they can’t help looking vulnerable.
