Rumour Mongering: Fekir Still Keen On Liverpool Despite Manchester United Link

The French midfielder still has his heart set on coming to Merseyside.

Round and round we go. What Liverpool fans had hoped would be a quick transfer deal with Lyon and France midfielder Nabil Fekir appears likely to stretch the rest of the summer window. While reliable reports and leaked video and photos show that Fekir had one foot in the door at Anfield before the World Cup, concerns over his long term fitness kept Liverpool from pulling the trigger on the deal.

Recently links have been made, mostly by Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas, to Liverpool rivals Manchester United, with some reports claiming that a deal had already been struck between player and club.

This appears to be a bit of gamesmanship from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, who has been emphatically pushing back against the stories that the deal was scrapped over issues regarding Fekir’s knee. Aulas is desperate to find a new home and cash in on the player, and this latest bit of gossip looks to be a way to call Liverpool’s bluff and force them back to the table.

French journalist Romain Collet-Gaudin tweeted this morning that despite the links with a move to Manchester, Fekir is still keen to end the summer in Liverpool

It remains to be seen if Liverpool still have any interest in the player. All of the rumours have been coming out of the French camp, with lips on Merseyside staying tightly shut.

Whether it’s Fekir or not, Liverpool seem likely to pick another couple of players in this window. If they do, they’d want it to be somewhere in the sweet spot between when the World Cup ends and pre-season begins, so that Klopp and the team aren’t overseas when it happens.

Liverpool fans are all eager to see how this plays out in the coming weeks.
