Dejan Lovren unhappy with VAR in World Cup final

Dejan Lovren has made it clear that he wasn’t happy with the use of VAR in the World Cup final.
VAR was used to award Didier Deschamps’ side a penalty for handball just before half-time, but Lovren believed it wasn’t a penalty and it showed the flaws within the technology.
“I was sure he would not give the penalty. Our player could not react, it’s impossible when you are so close to the ball. It was a critical moment,” said Lovren, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo.
“VAR needs to improve. Sometimes it is a penalty and sometimes not. I really don’t understand.
“A lot of people say it’s not a penalty but what can we do now? Nobody understands the rules.”
Lovren was also unimpressed with the pitch invaders as he believed his side were playing well up until they disrupted the game.
“I really was mad because we’d been playing at that moment in good shape,” said Lovren.
“We’d been playing good football and then some interruption came. I just lost my head and I grabbed the guy and I wished I could throw him away from the stadium.”

Croatia did have the better of France in many departments, and Lovren believes the loss to France in the final was a missed opportunity considering Croatia’s domination.
“We have been better and overall we have been better. France didn’t play football,” said Lovren.
“They waited for their chance and they scored. They had their one tactic and you have to respect it. They played every game of the tournament like that.
“I am disappointed because we lost the game but we played much better football then them.
“I am proud of what we achieved, second in the world. I’m proud of everyone and for the country. We have regrets now when we look at decisions, but it doesn’t make sense anymore.
“It’s hard to describe. Maybe after a couple of months I will have everything straight.”
