Liverpool Have Not Renewed Talks For Fekir

Contrary to hearsay otherwise, Liverpool really have stopped talk to Lyon over Fekir.

Silly season can be a real jerk. Playing on our emotions like that, when we’re already on a roller coaster due to the World Cup. People will take advantage of others by saying what others want to hear with an air of authority.

Of course this applies to the Nabil Fekir saga, what else could I be referring to?

(Right, yes, 98% of transfer season news).

Earlier this weekend there were reports that Liverpool had come back to the table with Lyon regarding the future of Nabil Fekir. Fekir, as you know, is a prized target of Klopp and had agreed personal and official terms with Liverpool before negotiations were canceled. Lyon currently refuse to consider any other deals for him until the conclusion of the World Cup and as such he remains a Lyon player. The drama of it all.

Now, in another dramatic case of whiplash, Paul Joyce of The Times reports that Liverpool have not resumed talks with Lyon over Fekir and haven’t had any discussions with the French club since June 8th when their original talks collapsed.

The article is stuck behind the Times’ paywall but the general summary is that the talks ended abruptly on “medical grounds”, despite an initial fee of £48.4 million and £4.4 million in add ons being agreed upon. Liverpool traveled to France for the medical and the next morning pulled out of negotiations, and 36 hours after that Lyon announced they’d canceled negotiations and that was that.

No new ground has been made since then, as the Lyon president had been adamant up until that point that all business would be done following the World Cup.

I don’t think I have to remind anyone that our buddy Paul is one of the more trusted journalists when it comes to transfer season, and while The Mirror has become slightly more trustworthy over the years (David Maddock is a pretty good resource), Paul Joyce certainly deserves more of your trust.

Until Liverpool, or Joycey, say otherwise the deal for Fekir is still decidedly off.
