Sheyi Ojo keen to impress on pre-season tour, loan likely before deadline
Sheyi Ojo is adamant that he can still bring a lot to Jurgen Klopp’s side this pre-season but acknowledges that he may have to go on loan in order to gain first-team football.
The 21-year-old has featured in all five of Liverpool’s friendlies this summer and could be in line for further minutes against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The winger is eager to impress the Reds boss this campaign and the youngster has already done a good job seizing his opportunities, scoring in Liverpool’s 3-2 win against Tranmere earlier this month.
After the arrival of several players in the transfer market, the Anfield club are looking to trim their squad before the start of the Premier League season.
Ojo knows he may be surplus to requirements in terms of Klopp’s plans, but he is keen to drawn inspiration from one of his senior teammates.
Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, he said:
“I am just trying to focus on the present by training well, staying fit and healthy and trying to do the best I can in these games I’m given. We’ve got to just see what happens after it.
“I feel like there comes a time when in order to make the next step, maybe you have to go out on loan and get a different experience. If that happens for me, then I’ll be looking to keep improving and come back stronger.
“There are loads of different examples, but Mo [Salah] is probably the best example – when he was at Chelsea, he went out on loan and now look at him. He’s done really well and is a star for our team. I’ll be looking follow in those sort of footsteps and take it as it comes.”
Ojo, who was on loan at Fulham last season, had another impressive performance against Borussia Dortmund in Liverpool’s Sunday night defeat to the German side.
Clipping the crossbar in the second half was as close as the English youth international came to scoring, in what was another mature performance.
There’s definitely more for me to do, of course, but the main thing is to listen to the manager’s instructions and try and be a threat whenever I can, and score or assist for the team,” he explains.
“I wasn’t able to do that in the last game, I was a little bit unlucky not to score, but if I get the opportunity in the next game then that’s the main aim – to try and finish off the chances and help the team.
“The five games I’ve had so far have helped with the fitness, but the main thing is getting back together as a group and listening to what the manager says. I think the five games have gone well.”
