Trent Alexander-Arnold Nominated for Europe’s Top Young Player Award

The Liverpool starlet is one of the favourites as the Golden Boy long-list is released—including two other Liverpool players.

The World Cup knockout rounds and Mohamed Salah’s new long-term deal are the big stories today for Liverpool fans, but there’s other good news out there, including the inclusion of Trent Alexander-Arnold on this year’s Golden Boy long-list.

Ben Woodburn and u23 star Herbie Kane have also been named to the long-list, but it’s Alexander-Arnold who is expected to be amongst the finalists—and might even have a chance at capturing the football world’s most unfortunately named individual honour.

Starting with a gargantuan 100-name long-list—including everyone from last year’s winner Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool’s Kane, who hasn’t made a professional appearance—20 players will be cut each month until November, when the winner will be chosen from 20 finalists.

And while Mbappe might be the favourite for many to repeat, the Golden Boy—voted on by a panel made up of writers from Tuttosport, Bild, A Bola, L’quipe, Marca, and The Times amongst others—has never yet had a two-time winner of the award.

Alongside Mbappe and Alexander-Arnold, football fans will recognise plenty of names on the extensive long-list, like Heerenveen’s Martin Odegaard, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Reece Oxford, and Dortmund’s Chrstian Pulisic.

Previously, Raheem Sterling won the award in 2014, Liverpool’s only Golden Boy winner. Since then, the award has gone to Anthony Martial, Renato Sanches, and Mbappe.
