Nabil Fekir Still Disappointed That Liverpool Deal Fell Through

So are we, Nabil. So are we.

Perhaps it is a situation many of us could relate to. You’ve been offered a job. The contract is prepared. Everything ready to be signed, sealed, and delivered. And then, after weeks, even months of preparation, everything goes to shit at a moment’s notice.

In Nabil Fekir’s case, there were millions of reasons he would have wanted the deal to Liverpool to go through. But alas, it did not, because of a situation he could do little about: a knee that appears to be a ticking time bomb.

In a recent press conference, Lyon boss Bruno Genesio addressed the player’s disappointment.

“It is never easy accepting this kind of situation, when you are very near to signing for a club where you want to go,” Genesio said. “Where you want to reach another level and to give a boost to your career.

“But as I said, it could have been worse for him. He is at Lyon, at a strong club, he is captain of a team who plays in the Champions League.”

Indeed, it could be worse. Fekir still has his career and health (Fowler willing he can prove Liverpool physios wrong), and has a World Cup winner’s medal in his collection.

If he continues his form from last season, there is no doubt that other teams, perhaps even Liverpool rivals, will be back in for him. As for now, both Liverpool and Fekir will just have to wonder what could have been if things were slightly different. C’est la vie.
