Adam Lallana Expects to Be Fit to Face Tottenham

The midfielder updated his status and says he expects to make a quick return.

When Adam Lallana suffered a groin injury during his first England training session, it almost felt inevitable. Given the playe’s track record with injuries; given Liverpool’s tendency to see their key players injured while away on international duty.

There was almost a sense of, well, of course it’s happened. That it would have been more of a surprise if he’d made it through the September international break fully fit. But, in a shock twist, it turns out now he just might be fit by the end of it.

“It’s a minor setback, which isn’t ideal as I’ve been in great shape until now, but it’s positive news that it’s only a brief lay-off,” Lallana revealed today in an update on his status that he shared on his Instagram and the club’s official website.

“I’m pleased I’ll be back and available for Liverpool both domestically and in the Champions League during September and then England again for the next break. I know I can make a significant contribution over the course of a long season.”

Before joining Liverpool, Lallana missed just 12 games and two months due to a pair of knee injuries in six seasons as a first team regular for Southampton. Now in his fifth season at Anfield, he has been sidelined 60 games and nearly 12 months.

Six of the past 18 months have seen him sidelined by a reoccurring hamstring injury that has meant Lallana has been unavailable for selection in 37 games. If he is in fact fit for all of September’s matches it will be very good news.
