Adam Lallana Suffers Groin Injury While on England Duty

The attacking midfielder has been sent back to Liverpool following an injury during training.

For much of Jürgen Klopp’s first year in charge at Liverpool, Adam Lallana looked to have found the ideal manager to bring out the best in his game, and the attacking midfielder was one of the first names on the team sheet and looked set to become a key player.

Since then, it’s been injuries and inconsistency, as the now 30-year-old struggles to stay fit and, when fit, struggles to show his best while shaking off the rust from his latest injury absence. And today, there’s yet more bad news for him on the injury front.

Lallana suffered a groin strain in training with England and is returning to Liverpool for further examination and treatment. It was his first involvement with the national team in 2018 after injuries kept him out of the action in the Spring and at the World Cup.

After being fit throughout pre-season, Lallana has made the bench in each of Liverpool’s first four matches and made one appearance, coming off the bench late on in the victory over Crystal Palace. He is now a doubt for Tottenham and a busy September.

Following the international break, Liverpool face Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain, Southampton, Napoli, Manchester City, and Chelsea twice in a three week run that could go a long way towards defining the season.
